NEIGHBORHOOD CRIME ALERT
On Friday evening, September 25th, at approximately 9:30 p.m., a resident of Hilshire Village was riding his bicycle in the 1200 block of Glourie Drive when he observed a vehicle with two males drive past him. The vehicle then turned around and drove back towards the resident, passed him again, and then stopped. At this time, the passenger in the vehicle got out, pointed a handgun at the victim, and demanded his wallet. The victim had no wallet, so the gunman left in the vehicle.
The vehicle is described as an older model two-door sports car, yellow in color. The gunman is believed to be a stocky-built black male in his twenties. The driver of the vehicle is believed to be Hispanic.
The police department is working with the other surrounding law enforcement agencies in an effort to identify any other possible related incidents. However, no such cases have been located. No information has been developed that would indicate that this was anything other than an isolated incident.
However, the police department would encourage all residents to use prudent caution when walking or cycling in the neighborhood, especially after dark.
When possible, it is recommended that residents carry a cell phone so that it is available if you need to call for help. Program the police departmentšs 10-digit phone number (713-465-8323) into your cell phonešs speed dial phone book. Calling this 10-digit number assures that you will be connected immediately to the Spring Valley Village Police dispatcher rather than possibly being routed to another agency by dialing 911 from a cell phone.
When possible, walk or cycle in groups rather than alone. As you do so, be aware of your surroundings. Remember that listening to radios or portable MP3 players can be a distraction.
And, as always, do not hesitate to contact the police department if you observe any suspicious activity in your neighborhood.
